Wildcats Come From Behind to Win Game 2 in Overtime
Mar 9, 2019, 10:58 pm

The Westman Wildcats had to come from behind to win game 2 of the semi-final series in Winnipeg this afternoon.  The Wildcats gave up a powerplay goal midway through the first period before Paige Hubbard responded with a shorthanded effort to tie the game at 1-1. The Ice, however, would again take the lead on the same powerplay to make it 2-1 at the end of the 1st period.

The Wildcats would tie the game up 8 minutes into the 2nd period on their first powerplay opportunity of the night as Krissy Rink buried the rebound off a goal mouth scramble.  The game would stay tied through the remainder of the 2nd period and 3rd period, leading to overtime.

The Wildcats would take a penalty in overtime but Charly Lindberg would force the referee to make a call against the Ice with a determined effort up the ice with the puck. The teams played a bit of 4 on 4 and just as the Wildcats went on the powerplay, Jori Hansen-Young picked off a puck at the blue line and skated into the slot and let rip a snap shot that beat the Ice goaltender high to the blocker side for the overtime winner with 50 seconds left in the frame.  Natalie Williamson picked up the win in net in relief of Jillian Szabo.
